DESCRIPTION
The vessel is a non-self propelled hopper bulk cargo barge of all welded steel construction with square raked bow and stern, straight sides, and without superstructures. The stern rake is fitted with fixed skegs.
The vessel is a double skin, double bottom barge divided into:
- ten (10) watertight void spaces,
- eight (8) main compartments and the bow and stern rakes,
- the two (2) rakes and eight void tanks are accessible from manholes on the port and starboard sides of the five void compartment and from the internal manholes on the port and starboard sides of each void space transverse bulkhead.
The single hopper, approximately 32' by 260' is covered with overlapping covers, fabricated of molded fiberglass and wood reinforced.
The vessel is not in class by ABS, nor is it required to be inspected by the US Coast Guard.
CONSTRUCTION
General construction plans are not available.
- Shell plating appears originally to be 9/16"steel on the sheer and second plate below the sheer. All others are approximately ½".
- Longitudinal shell frames are 6" by 3.25" by 3/8". I-frames are at 26" centers. Side shell vertical frames are 10" by 3" by 3/8" channel.
- Under the cargo box frames are 6" by 3.25" by 3/8". I frames are on 24" centers.
Bottom frames are 6" by 3.25" by 3/8". I frames are on 24" centers, having eight (8) 2.25" by 2.25" by 3/8" angle diagonals and eight (8) 12" by 12" by 3/8" vertical spacers between the two transverse frames.
- The space between the cargo box plating and the bottom plating is approximately 24"
